It was just another typical day…
if seeing Aerosmith grabbing a soda in the break room counts as typical. Gabrielle Raumberger, our department head, had tasked us with designing a sticker for the shrink wrap of Appetite for Destruction by Guns N' Roses. The sticker was meant to help parents determine whether the album was appropriate for their children. Satanic panic was sweeping the nation. Sure, let’s blame rock-n-roll, again.
There were no marketing meetings, revisions, or endless rounds of overthinking—just a quick assignment that needed to be completed promptly. Kav Delux, the art director, rapidly sketched his concept and passed it to me. As the only person skilled in using the first Mac Apple IICi computer, I selected the fonts and designed the layout in Quark.
It’s incredible to think that this small, rushed project has since become an iconic image, 30 years later. Rock on.
